Convert Claude to PDF

Copy an answer out of Claude, paste it here, and download a typeset PDF. No extension to install, no watermark on the output, no cap on how many you save. Trying to save a whole conversation instead of one reply? Claude's own export options and your browser's print dialog both handle that, and the alternatives below cover when to reach for which.

How it works

Turn a Claude answer into a PDF

01

Copy the answer

In Claude, click the copy icon under the reply, or select the text yourself. Either way you get the raw Markdown: headings, lists, and tables intact.

02

Paste it here

Drop it into the source pane on the left. The proof on the right typesets as you paste, and any stray "Copy code" text left behind by a code block button is trimmed automatically.

03

Save as PDF

Press Download PDF and choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog. That is the finished document, no signup and no watermark.

Other ways to do it

When another route makes more sense

topdf.md is the quick path for a single answer. It is not the only way to get a PDF out of Claude, and exporting a whole conversation is genuinely a different job. Here is the honest version.

A whole conversation

To capture an entire chat rather than one answer, open it in Claude and use your browser's print (Cmd or Ctrl+P), then "Save as PDF". Every turn comes through, though the look is the chat interface's, not a typeset document.

Claude's data export

For an archive of everything you've asked Claude, your account settings have a data export option that emails you a download link. It is built for backup, not for sharing, so expect raw conversation files rather than a clean, ready-to-send PDF.

A browser extension

An extension that adds a save-as-PDF button inside Claude is handy if you export constantly and want it one click away. The catch with the popular free ones is a watermark and a cap of a few PDFs a day. If that trade works for you, fair enough.

Questions

Is converting Claude to PDF free?

Yes. No signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many you save. It is the same converter behind the plain Markdown and ChatGPT versions of this tool, so nothing here is exclusive or metered.

Do I need a browser extension to export a Claude chat to PDF?

Not for a single answer, and not really for a whole conversation either. Your browser's own print dialog (Cmd or Ctrl+P inside Claude, then "Save as PDF") handles a full chat without installing anything. An extension only earns its keep if you export daily and want a one-click shortcut.

Is my Claude conversation uploaded anywhere?

No. Whatever you paste is rendered and turned into a PDF right in your browser. It is never sent to a server, stored, or logged. Close the tab and it is gone.

Does the formatting survive the paste?

Yes. Headings, tables, lists, and fenced code blocks with syntax highlighting all come through, because Claude writes GitHub-flavored Markdown by default and that is exactly what this renders.
