# Why jet lag hits harder flying east, and how to recover faster

Jet lag isn't really about being tired. It's your body clock disagreeing with
the sun. Flying east compresses your day, which is a harder adjustment than
flying west, where you get a few bonus hours instead.

## Why direction matters

Your circadian rhythm runs on a cycle slightly longer than 24 hours, closer to
24.2 in most people. That means:

- Flying **west** lengthens your day, which lines up with your body's natural
  drift. Easier.
- Flying **east** shortens your day, forcing you to fall asleep before you're
  ready. Harder.

Rule of thumb: budget roughly one day of adjustment per hour of time
difference flying east, and about two-thirds of a day per hour flying west.

## Once you land

1. Get outside. Light is the strongest cue your body clock responds to,
   stronger than melatonin or sleep timing.
2. Eat on the new schedule right away, even if you're not hungry.
3. Nap only if you must, and cap it at 20 minutes before 3pm local time.
4. Hold off on melatonin until it's actually dark where you are. Taking it too
   early just confuses things further.

If the shift is more than five hours, budget a rough first 48 hours no matter
what you do. The plan above shortens the recovery. It doesn't erase it.

Other ways to do it

When another route makes more sense

topdf.md is the quick path for a single answer. It is not the only way to get a PDF out of Claude, and exporting a whole conversation is genuinely a different job. Here is the honest version.

A whole conversation

To capture an entire chat rather than one answer, open it in Claude and use your browser's print (Cmd or Ctrl+P), then "Save as PDF". Every turn comes through, though the look is the chat interface's, not a typeset document.

Claude's data export

For an archive of everything you've asked Claude, your account settings have a data export option that emails you a download link. It is built for backup, not for sharing, so expect raw conversation files rather than a clean, ready-to-send PDF.

A browser extension

An extension that adds a save-as-PDF button inside Claude is handy if you export constantly and want it one click away. The catch with the popular free ones is a watermark and a cap of a few PDFs a day. If that trade works for you, fair enough.

Is my Claude conversation uploaded anywhere?

No. Whatever you paste is rendered and turned into a PDF right in your browser. It is never sent to a server, stored, or logged. Close the tab and it is gone.

Does the formatting survive the paste?

Yes. Headings, tables, lists, and fenced code blocks with syntax highlighting all come through, because Claude writes GitHub-flavored Markdown by default and that is exactly what this renders.
